On November 27th, U.S. Federal Claims Judge Nancy Firestone ruled against a bid protest filed by a Maryland veteran owned business. Firestone said the VA didn’t violate a 2006 law by awarding an emergency notification service contract without first considering bids from veterans. The award was one of at least 18 that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said were unlawful.
Last year, over 1800 cards were collected and distributed to area veterans in 13 different facilities around Owensboro and to the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.
Businesses that have been displaced for at least three weeks can apply for a grant of up to $10,000 to help with repairs, supplies and other storm-related expenses.
Martha McSally, a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel is the keynote speaker. The day will also feature a small business panel discussion on what to do to start or grow your business, financing workshops, testimonials from successful veteran business owners and a session on government contracting.
The franchise can also be operated by disabled veterans using a mobile device and sending out workers to pick up the debris and do the heavy lifting.
