The day begins with an open session called “Five Things Employers Want You to Know” which deals with what employers look for in a resume and how military spouses can avoid common mistakes when applying and interviewing for a job. In other sessions, military spouses will discuss how they balance home life and career.
The no-cost festive holiday-themed Meet and Greet featured over a dozen companies and offered veterans an opportunity to promote their business or provide assistance to veteran owned small businesses.
The Red Cross has also developed the Coming Home From Deployment: The New “Normal” booklet to assist all military families with what can be a difficult and complicated transition home.
The forum is geared towards U.S. military veterans, their spouses, and active duty, guard, and reservists who own, or are interested in starting, small businesses.
The first event on their 2013 schedule takes place at LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans, in Nashville on Thursday, January 24, 2013. The event begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. RecruitMilitary expects more than 30 employers, franchisors, educational institutions, and government agencies to reserve exhibitor booths at the Nashville Expo.
Veterans who attend the event will join small business experts from federal, state, and local organizations. The focus will be on starting and growing your small business.
Organizers are asking residents to consider making a cash donation or to assist in providing desserts or rolls for the meal. Checks can be made payable to DAV Chapter 84 and dropped off at the Veteran Hall. Volunteers will be on location Mondays through Fridays from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. through Sunday to take donations and sign-ups for volunteers.
